So Big!

Caden Loves Kisses!

Today’s unseasonably warm weather makes it feel like the boys’ birthdays are already upon us but we’re still in the depths of winter, gracias El NiƱo. Nevertheless, Caden is just a skosh past a fortnight away from turning one, and has really expedited his growth in the past couple weeks. His character is really starting to congeal into a curious, lovable and yet sometimes mischievous little brut. Even though he talks with his Dad though a cacophony of grunts, this caveman is still a Momma’s boy. I swear he can smell her coming and when she leaves upstairs he can locate her with a round of high pitch grunts from downstairs that has to be a new dolphin-like sonar genetic mutation. He recently learned to raise his hands over his head after we say, “How big is Caden? So big.” So now his favorite two tricks are clapping and raising his hands after Mommy or Daddy walks in the door; so adorable. Yet most exciting is his new sense of balance and ever expanding consecutive steps. His early hesitation to fail has quickly heeded to a new demeanor of confidence and adventurism: two characteristics that Cole, on the other hand, has always displayed.

Cole continues to display chutzpah, complemented with genuine humility and a maturity beyond his years. Just tonight, he could be heard randomly singing, “ella, ella, ella, eh eh, ella, ella,” straight from the Rihanna song, “Umbrella.” I can directly relate to his sense of humor by revisiting when I used to respond with “woof, woof,” when my mom asked me what a cat says. One just needs to take a look at his gallery of Mii’s on his new Nintendo Wii, to grasp this kid’s humor. It’s a virtual mad science laboratory of family avatars, with a plethora of humorously mismatched hair styles, physiques and nose shapes, just to name a few. Cole is extremely excited to go to Disneyland in a couple of months for his third birthday, even though he has no idea what it is. All he knows is that Mickey and friends are there and that’s good enough for him. He again displayed the keenness of his memory today by telling us we were about to buy “huevos” at the store after Kelly taught him the week prior what the word for eggs was in Spanish. He’s a sharp kid and very loving, even with his younger brother, except when Caden is aspiring to be Cole and tries to play with the same toys, which doesn’t settle well with Cole.

It continues to be a sheer pleasure experiencing both boys’ daily milestones and hilarious quarks.
